About Squirrels
Squirrels is for children aged 4 to 6. Our Drey is called Brighton Hill Somers Squirrel Drey and we have 16 children at most times. We learn about the world and gain new skills through fun activities such as scavenger hunts, navigating, map reading, first aid, gardening, cooking and crafts. We try to hold our activities outside (if possible) and we like to go on local visits. We work towards badges and aim to give the children some challenge in an age appropriate way.
The Programme
The programme of weekly activities we run at Squirrels on a Monday is fun, engaging and adventurous! We help our Squirrels, across their 2 years with us to achieve a variety of badges with the ultimate goal of receiving their Chief Scouts Acorn award! We have fun being brilliant builders, we do exciting experiments, we are super chefs, we celebrate different festivals and cultures across the world and we learn LOADS of great skills in the process.

FAQ
What uniform is required?
For weekly meetings, your child will just need their official section uniform top (such as the Squirrels red sweatshirt or Cubs green jumper). When they are officially invested into the group, we will present them with our Group neckerchief (often called a 'necker') alongside their starting badges.
Where do I sew all the badges?
It can definitely seem a bit daunting when they start earning so many! We have put together a handy badge placement diagram for you - simply scroll down to the next section on this page to see exactly where each one belongs.
Do you need parents to help out?
Yes, our group is entirely run by volunteers and we always appreciate an extra pair of hands! Whether you can help make squash on a parent rota once a term, or you are interested in joining the leadership team, your support is vital to keeping the adventure going.
How do I get a place for my child?
Our sections are very popular, so we use a central waiting list. Simply use the 'Join our Waiting List' button in the main menu to fill out your details, and our membership team will be in touch as soon as a space becomes available.
